On November 21, 2014, the most distinguished and eminent veterinary anatomist Prof. Robert BARONE passed away in Lyon (France) at the blessed age of 97 years.

Scientifically active for more than 60 years, and despite the stumbling-stones and painful thorns on his long path of life, he has studied all aspects of animal morphology, covering not only domestic mammals, but also a wide array of prehistoric, feral and laboratory animals as well as primate and human anatomy. His vast scientific work has culminated in a monumental Magnum opus “Anatomie comparée des mammifères domestiques”, an encyclopedic masterpiece with a unique wealth of original, clear and systematic descriptions and a superb iconography. These books have received world-wide appreciation and several prestigious scientific as well as academic awards.
